Not a day goes by with out choices to be made, but when times get tough sometimes our perspective needs a shift. After all, we are not designed to be in struggle perpetually, but we are designed to live in happiness and prosperity. So how can we change our challenges into celebration?
Whether the situation is financial struggles, relationship turmoil or trouble with excessive behaviors like gambling, shopping, eating or mind-altering substances, There are three basic steps to change, and although they may not be easy, it is possible to start change today.
- Accept the challenge and your part in the creation of it. This is harder than it sounds, especially the second part; what part have you played in the development of the circumstance that you seek to change? Blaming others, or circumstances, leaves you powerless in the end. By accepting responsibility you accept the ability to change your circumstances.
- Identify the real blockers that are preventing you from escaping the situation (until now). Usually, these are your beliefs, and most often these inhibiting beliefs are derived from false information. False information could have been taught to you at a young age, and could even have been well-intentioned. For example, a parent tells a child they wouldn’t win a competition, so that way, they won’t be disappointed when they don’t. The result could be a belief that the child (even as an adult) does not take chances, because they believe they are good enough to “win.” Identifying false beliefs isn’t always easy, but when a voice of negativity sounds off for you, ask, “whose voice is that?” Chances are, you will remember who first spoke those negative words. The words do not belong to you. They may have been given to you, but they are not designed for you to keep!
- Remove and Replace (Most importantly, replace) the blocking thought with new strategies and beliefs that ARE true. How do you know what is true? It feels right. Literally. The False Thought of inadequacy can make you feel bad, even sick because it is not in congruency with who you are designed by God to be. The True Thought feels right. When the negative thought surfaces immediately become aware of it and instantly replace it with the opposite thought! “ Success is impossible”, becomes “ I am designed to do this and success comes to me easily.”
These steps require focus, commitment and possibly outside help to get clear on what is truly possible, but you can start to practice a new way of being today. Believe your celebration may be just around the corner.
